Texas Holdem Poker Games in India

Learn how to play Texas Hold’em: Texas Hold’em is the most popular variant of poker. Before you start playing the game, it’s best to get acquainted with the rules.

How the Game Begins

In Texas Hold’em, one of the players is given a dealer button, which moves clockwise to the next player at the end of each hand. Each player is dealt with two cards called ‘hole cards’. After the hole cards are dealt, the action is on the player sitting to the left of the dealer. Each player has to make the best 2 card hand using his or her hole cards and the five community cards that are opened by the dealer. There’s a round of betting after the hole cards are dealt. After this first round of betting, three community cards, commonly known as the flop are opened. There’s a round of betting (or checking!) after the flop, following which two more community cards (the turn and river) are opened one at a time with a round of betting after each.

One of the most fun aspects of Texas Hold’em is the fact that there’s no limit on bet sizing. So a player can bet his or her entire stack at any stage, and this makes for some monster pots! Often enough, a player might win a pot uncontested, i.e. everyone else on the table ends up folding. But in the event of a showdown, the player with the ends up winning the pot.

If multiple players have the same ranked hand, the pot ends up being equally distributed among all of them. In poker, unlike in bridge, all suits are ranked the same.

Example: A 5 handed cash game, with blinds at Rs.10/Rs.20.

Player 1: Posts small blind of Rs.10.

Player 2: Posts big blind of Rs.20.

Each player is dealt two ‘hole cards’ after the blinds are posted.

Player 3: Calls Rs.20.

Player 4: Folds (A folded player is inactive until the next hand is dealt)

Player 5: Raises to Rs.80.

Player 1: Folds

Player 2: Calls Rs.60.

Player 3: Folds

Pot contains Rs.190 now.

Flop

Now three community cards will be displayed to all the players.

Player 2: Bets Rs.110

Player 5: Call Rs.110

The pot is now at Rs.410.

Now this round of betting is complete.

Turn

A fourth community card will be displayed face up.

Player 2: Bets Rs.400

Player 5: Call Rs.400

The pot is now at Rs1210.

River

A fifth community card called the River will be displayed.

Player 2: Checks.

Player 5: Bets Rs.1210

Player 2: Calls.

The pot is now at Rs.3630.

Showdown

Player 2 and 5’s hands will be displayed, and the player with the better hand ends up winning the pot!
